Discussing FO & RO with “Water Technology”

This July, Oasys Water’s CEO Jim Matheson discussed the differences between FO and RO with Water Technology‘s Robyn Tucker.

We were happy to have our CEO Jim Matheson catch up with Robyn Tucker, Managing Editor of Water Technology,  for a conversation on the differences between reverse osmosis (RO), a staple in seawater desalination and water purification, and forward osmosis (FO) an emerging technology targeting brine concentration and water reuse applications in a variety of industries. In this interview, Jim talks about the technological differences and how FO takes on complex water steams beyond the limits of what RO can typically handle. By separating reuseable water from a wastewater stream at low pressure, taking advantage of osmotic pressure differentials, and with high flow velocity across the membrane surface, FO operates with a much lower potential for scaling or fouling, allowing it to perform separation processes on much more difficult waters than RO, while also offering recovery levels above 90% in most cases.
