Manufacturing Engineer

Oasys Water seeks an experienced, motivated and effective Manufacturing Engineer to join the team at our Cambridge, MA facility. The Manufacturing Engineer’s focus will be the production of Forward Osmosis elements. The Manufacturing Engineer’s activities will include traditional production monitoring and improvement activities from supply chain, through lean/six sigma concepts, and data monitoring and analysis. The Manufacturing Engineer will also support activities related to development and continuous improvement of our product with our core technology team. This role is based in Cambridge, MA, but will require travel (25%) to Oasys and manufacturing partner sites, both domestic and international.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership of Oasys’ spiral wound element processing and quality control operations, including method development, data analysis, and troubleshooting;
  • Integrate technical data from manufacturing partners, internal operations and testing, research, and other sources to provide data-driven insights that can guide research, development, and manufacturing improvements;
  • Troubleshoot variability and yield issues in the manufacturing operation, interfacing closely with technology partners and the Oasys R&D organization;
  • Design and implement quality improvement programs in accordance with established industry best practices;
  • Apply manufacturing and industrial engineering practices to our industry leading thin film manufacturing operation, including monitoring performance and yield;
  • Collaborate with the R&D and supply chain organizations to guide technology development and system optimization;
  • Provide support for a fast-growing and evolving manufacturing operation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or similar;
  • 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering;
  • Evidence of strong data analysis and programming skills for analyzing medium-sized and large sets of technical data;
  • Strong technical understanding of fluid systems and fluid handling equipment;
  • Expertise in Statistical Process Control and Six Sigma principles;
  • Spiral wound element or membrane manufacturing experience a plus, especially within the reverse osmosis membrane industry;
  • Creative mind and ability to apply sound engineering principles to improve processes and solve complex manufacturing issues;
  • Ability to positively and effectively communicate with all levels within the organization;
  • Team player who also has the ability to work independently and proactively to respond to inquiries and resolve issues;
  • Language skills desirable; Spanish is a plus;
  • 25% domestic and international travel is expected.

Oasys Water is seeking a motivated water technology Application Engineer with a can-do attitude to join our technical sales support engineering team at our Cambridge, MA office.  Reporting directly to the Director of Application Engineering, this position is a mid-level role which focuses on technical sales support efforts to drive growth in our business.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Support the Oasys sales organization by preparing documentation for budgetary and firm proposals using the Oasys technology platform to achieve customers’ objectives;
  • Evaluate applications and develop designs using the Oasys technology platform to achieve customers’ objectives;
  • Preparation of PFD and P&ID sets for projects;
  • Preparation of BOM and Equipment Lists;
  • Develop and maintain cost estimates and models to support proposal efforts including working with suppliers and manufacturers both domestically and internationally;
  • Support the development of full treatment system designs for systems including oil/water separation, conventional water treatment, and membrane desalination technologies;
  • Review warranty requirements and prepare recommendations to management for approval;
  • Develop project scope and execution strategies including project schedules and manufacturing plans;
  • Support generation of sales drawings as required;
  • Assess project risk, review warranty requirements and prepare recommendations to management for approval;
  • Work with partner companies to establish overall project plans;
  • Provide support for continuous benchmarking and knowledge of the market (overall trends, competitors, new technology, etc.);
  • Work cross-functionally across the organization ensuring continuous improvement of the Oasys commercial offerings.

 

The successful candidate will have been directly involved in developing technical proposals in the membrane market or adjacent market space.

Education and Qualifications:

  • BS in engineering or other technical discipline required;
  • 2-4+ years of experience in a technical role supporting membrane technologies, preferably FO, RO, UF/MF. Experience in adjacent or related market spaces will be considered;
  • Software skills must include Microsoft Office Suite and some AutoCAD;
  • The ideal candidate has the ability to develop Excel Macros and work proficiently in AutoCAD to generate P&IDs and layouts from standard GA drawings;
  • Strong work ethic, ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities while meeting deadlines;
  • Team player who also has the ability to work independently and proactively to respond to inquiries and resolve issues;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, both written and verbal;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • The ideal candidate possesses a desire to grow in their career both from a professional and technical perspective.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 25%;
  • Continuously strive to be technically competent and current in new developments in relevant fields;
