FO Takes A Giant Step Forward

Over the past six months, Massachusetts-based Oasys Water has been conducting pilot tests of its membrane brine concentrator (MBC) process on produced water from the Marcellus Shale. Based on the test results, Oasys is expected to announce that it has received a contract for its first, full-scale MBC system in a shale gas frac’ing application.

According to Lisa Sorgini, Oasys’ vice president of strategy and market development, Oasys arranged to have 20 tankers deliver produced water to its research center in Somerset, Massachusetts. “We found it was easier to run the extended tests at our own facility. So we had produced water from a centralized treatment site in the Marcellus Shale delivered to us. After the testing, the water was sent back to the site for disposal,” she said.
